With modern laminates so convincing and so simple to install, at Edward James Oak, we’re often asked whether it is really worth installing a solid oak floor. The answer, of course, is emphatically yes.

Laminate is to solid wood flooring, what a cheap print is to an original painting. However good it looks, it will always lack the aesthetic qualities of the genuine article. There is simply no substitute for the original, organic feeling of solid wood flooring. The feel, the smell, the lustre and the undeniable quality of genuine hardwood flooring is something that no laminate will ever recreate, however much you spend.

Hardwood flooring has been used in the finest homes, hotels and offices for centuries, and that heritage shines through in every installation, giving a timeless elegance and ambience to every room. Polished to perfection, there’s nothing like it.

What’s more, solid oak flooring is a look that lasts, long after laminates have faded and become loose. Engineered wood flooring is built to fit precisely and finished in a way that retains its quality look year after year, through staining and oiling, waxes and lacquers.

Solid oak hardwood flooring gives you so much flexibility in style and design. Edward James Oak source only the finest oak wood from Central Europe, and bring it to our own factory, where it is hand finished by true craftsmen. In this way, we are able to offer a range of oak styles, from traditional knotty oak that is stained or smoked to your exact requirements, to contemporary clean grades that create a fresh modern look.

So if you’re considering flooring, don’t compromise on laminate, choose the quality of real solid oak flooring from Edward James Oak.

There are some essential tips and steps to follow when you decide you are going to fit hardwood flooring London.

By using these tips you can make fitting your flooring, whether it is solid wood flooring London or even engineered wood flooring London, easy and hassle free.

The technique is key and researching your plan of action is a key factor in fitting hardwood flooring.

It can be tricky and time-consuming, that fact cannot be ignored, however it is beautiful and timeless and can provide a wonderful experience for you to keep hold of each time you walk upon your wood flooring.

Step 1: Preparation for the wood flooring

measure and draft the floor layout.

Adapt the wood to appropriate measurements for the room you plan on fitting the wood flooring in.

Prepare the flooring area.

Step 2: Laying the wood flooring

First boards and rows ( this has to be done correctly and carefully to minimise and damage and mistakes later on).

Use the ‘general laying procedure’, follow the established layout, using spacers and when happy slowly apply to the adhesive.

Special manoeuvres; for areas such as around the fireplace.

Final rows ( how to finish off)

Step 3: Finishing touches

Fitting the trims ( recommended to wait 24 hours before attempting to fit skirting boards or any other trim, as the floor needs to settle first).

Filler ( Added to areas where there are slight gaps and cracks in the wood flooring).

Cleaning, wood flooring is low maintenance and dirt and muck can be easily cleaned up, the best way to clean is through regular sweeping and using a vacuum, as well as mopping with a damp (not wet) terry cloth mop.

We have introduced new engineered hardwood flooring products to our Bespoke Avantgarde Collection. These are the Burnt Tudor varieties, they include ‘Burnt Lake Tudor’ ‘Burnt Regency Oak’ ‘Medieval Blackened Oak’ ‘Old English White Tudor’ ‘Ringbeits Traditional Limed’ and ‘Traditional Limed Tudor’

The Burnt Tudor oak floorboards offer a beautiful texturised grain with a slightly tanned appearance that produces a wonderful depth to the oak floors.

This new collection could suit large open mature spaces in a house that has both age and character, alternatively it could suit a concept of using aged and contemporary aesthetics jointly, a model that’s of common practice and trend at present.

The Burnt Tudor hardwood flooring has an exceptionally bespoke oak feel to it and a very unique look, so why not view now on our website and request a sample if you like what you see.

Choosing wood flooring can be fun and exciting as well as daunting and time consuming.

But like everything else the time spent researching usually provides savings and a better result in the end.

Wood flooring is a favourite of many, the classical look and feel provides an instant homely atmosphere in the home.

Hardwood flooring can offer a beautiful finish and with the right care and attention can create the finishing touch in any home.

Many people don’t give the flooring enough thought and the flooring you choose can actually increase the house value of your home.

Solid wood flooring is also a favourite, it provides the beauty of hardwood flooring, but it also offers benefits such as being stain resistant and easy to clean.

Wood flooring if looked after can last decades and is often cheaper in the long run than carpets, vinyl or laminate flooring.

Engineered wood flooring is contemporary and often cheaper than solid or hardwood flooring, it offers the look you want at a cheaper price and can be laid by yourself.

Wood flooring offers a warmth that other flooring lacks, providing a warm atmosphere for your home, wood flooring can be the best option for you and your home.

Wooden flooring has been popular for a long time, and its ability to provide natural beauty and style to any room in which it is installed is one of the main reasons why it is the first choice for many a homeowner.

However, once you have had this flooring installed in your home, you can’t afford to simply forget about it and fail to make the effort to maintain it on a regular basis, and it requires regular cleaning and maintenance to keep it in peak condition.

There are numerous preventative measures which should be taken to keep your wooden flooring looking as good as possible for as long as possible; here are a few of the most effective…

- Clean up any water and liquid spills immediately, as allowing them to soak in could cause permanent damage to your wooden floor

- Use only products recommended by a flooring professional such as Justwood floors

- Invest in rugs and place at areas such as sinks and areas which are subject to high traffic

- Fit felt pads or castor cups on all furniture

- Use a good quality barrier matt at all external entrances

- Remove footwear (especially high heeled stiletto styles) before walking on wooden flooring

Follow these simple steps and you can prevent premature deterioration of your wooden flooring and keep it looking beautiful for as long as possible.
